Lohardaga (Jharkhand), May 25 (IANS) A gruesome incident stemming from a family dispute came to light on Monday in Jharkhand's Lohardaga district, where a man allegedly hacked his father and wife to death with an axe and critically injured his three-year-old daughter.

The incident took place in Sengra Toli village under the Bhandra police station limits and sent shockwaves across the area, leaving residents in mourning.

The deceased have been identified as Surendra Oraon, 60, and Sujata Oraon, 27. The accused, Sandeep Oraon, was arrested on the spot.

According to police and local residents, a dispute broke out at the family's home on Monday and quickly escalated. In a fit of rage, Sandeep Oraon allegedly picked up an axe kept in the house and attacked his father, Surendra Oraon.

When his wife, Sujata Oraon, tried to intervene, he allegedly turned on her and struck her repeatedly with the axe.

In a chilling turn, the accused also allegedly attacked his three-year-old daughter, Rianshi, leaving her critically injured.

By the time villagers rushed to the house after hearing screams, Surendra Oraon and Sujata Oraon had already succumbed to their injuries. The child was found seriously injured and lying in a pool of blood.

On receiving information, Bhandra police station in-charge Manoj Kumar Gupta reached the spot with his team and took the accused into custody.

The injured child was rushed to the Community Health Centre in Bhandra in a police vehicle. After administering first aid, doctors referred her to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi for advanced treatment due to her critical condition and deep injuries.

Police have recovered the blood-stained axe allegedly used in the crime.

The bodies have been sent to the district hospital for post-mortem examination after completion of legal formalities.

An investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the attack.
