BJP leader's brother shot at in Bihar's Saran; police probe underway
Patna, Aug 14 (IANS) A day after a youth was shot at in Bihar's Saran district, local police launched a massive manhunt to nab the accused, said officials on Friday.
On Thursday evening, bike-borne assailants shot Bajrang Prasad Soni, younger brother of BJP leader Jitendra Kumar Soni, in Rasulpur village under the Amanour police station area of Bihar's Saran district.
The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Bajrang sustained serious injuries and was initially provided treatment locally before being referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for further treatment. His condition is said to be critical.
The incident created panic in the village, while family members rushed the injured man to Patna. After receiving information about the shooting, Madhaura DSP Savinder Kumar Das and a team from Amanour police station reached the spot and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to family members, Bajrang was returning home on a motorcycle with his nephew Shobhit Raj after closing their shop.
At around 7 p.m., when they reached near Rasulpur Middle School, unidentified men riding a motorcycle allegedly chased them and fired three rounds.
Bajrang suffered gunshot injuries to his neck and back.
Police also questioned Shobhit Raj, who was reportedly accompanying Bajrang when the shooting took place.
Police sources said that Jitendra Kumar Soni and Bajrang Prasad Soni had been involved in a land dispute with extended family members.
The dispute had allegedly led to a violent clash between the two sides in December 2025, during which Jitendra and Bajrang were seriously injured.
According to police sources, those accused in the earlier case were released on bail around 10 days before Thursday's shooting.
Police are examining whether the previous dispute is connected to the latest attack.
Madhaura DSP Savinder Kumar Das said that police are investigating all possible angles and working to identify and arrest those responsible for the shooting.
