Child abused and pierced with needles dies
Kolkata July 21 (IANS) A 3-year-old girl who was in a critical condition with several needle injuries and a broken arm has died in West Bengal a hospital source said on Friday.
The child a resident of Purulia district was brought to the SSKM hospital here in a critical condition last week. She was allegedly physically and sexually abused by an elderly person who employs her mother as a domestic help.
"She succumbed to sepsis and pneumonia between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m " the source said.
Police said they have a lodged a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POSCO) Act against Sanatan Thakur a former home guard and the employer of the girl s mother.
The abuse came to light when the child s mother took her to the Bankura Medical college complaining of cough and cold but the doctors found multiple external injuries on her body some inflicted by needles police said.
