Criminal wanted in Andhra held in UP

Ghaziabad July 21 (IANS) A criminal wanted for murder in Andhra Pradesh was arrested here after a gun battle with security forces police said on Friday.

Superintendent of Police Akash Tomar said the criminal Deepak Sharma and his accomplice were on a motorcycle but did not halt during checking at Kamla Nagar on Thursday night.

When policemen chased them the criminals opened fire resulting in a gunfight. While the accomplice escaped Sharma was overpowered.

Sharma a resident of Muzaffarnagar confessed to his involvement in several cases of robbery and murder in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.

He had committed a robbery in the state treasury in Andhra Pradesh in which a security guard was killed. The Andhra Pradesh Police had announced a reward of Rs 25 000 for his arrest.

"We are making efforts to arrest the accomplice too " said Tomar.
