HC extends bail of 1984 anti-Sikh riots convict

New Delhi Aug 18 (IANS) The Delhi High Court on Friday extended till August 24 the interim bail granted to Balwan Khokhar a former Congress councillor awarded life sentence in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.



Khokhar has sought extension of bail till October to arrange funds to pay his lawyers and finalise the sale of his properties.

On July 20 Khokhar was granted interim bail and this was extended later.

In 2013 the trial court had acquitted Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in the case but Khokhar was convicted along with four others.

Retired naval officer Captain Bhagmal Girdhari Lal former MLA Mahender Yadav and Kishan Khokhar were held guilty along with Balwan Khokhar.

The case relates to the murder of five members of a family in Raj Nagar area of Delhi Cantonment on November 1 1984 after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
