CPI-M condemns killing of Tripura journalist

New Delhi Sep 21 (IANS) The CPI-M on Thursday condemned the killing of Tripura-based journalist Santanu Bhowmick and blamed the BJP for the killing.

"The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the murder of a progressive journalist Santanu Bhowmick by BJP-backed IPTF miscreants in Tripura " said a party statement.

Bhowmick was hacked to death on Wednesday while covering clashes that broke out between the Communist Party of India-Marxist s Tribal wing Tripura Rajya Upajati Ganamukti Parishad workers and the cadres of the Indigenous People s Front of Tripura a tribal-based opposition party in Tripura.

"On the heels of the murder of Gauri Lankesh has come yet another killing of a progressive journalist. There is a clear pattern in this employed by the RSS-BJP particularly in the states were elections are due of silencing progressive journalists and the dissemination of truth to the people " said the statement.

The party demanded that the culprits be brought to book immediately.
