Congress supports verdict on sex with underage wife

New Delhi Oct 11 (IANS) The Congress on Wednesday welcomed the judgment of Supreme Court on sex with a wife below 18 years of age saying child marriages are banned in the country.
"We support the judgment of the Supreme Court. You know that child marriages are banned in India and that is something that is the letter of the law and as individuals we should follow it " Congress spokesperson R. P. N. Singh told reporters here.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday said sex with wife below 18 years of age is rape striking down the provision of criminal law that permitted sex with a wife aged between 15 and 18.
