Opposition devoted to cash dominated economy: Jaitley

New Delhi Oct 24 (IANS) Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday took a dig at the opposition parties over their plan to observe the anniversary of demonetisation as a Black Day and said the opposition preferred a cash dominated economy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1 000 notes last year on November 8. Jaitley said: "They can definitely observe it (November 8) as black day it proves their devotion to a cash dominated economy."

"The government feels the economy should be a less cash economy the opposition believes the economy should be cash dominated " he said.

The opposition parties on Tuesday said they would observe November 8 as Black Day to protest against the government s "ill-conceived and hasty" decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1 000 currency notes a year ago.

Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters here the opposition parties have worked out a joint strategy to register their protest against the November 8 2016 demonetisation.
