Nagaland Governor urges NSCN-K to join peace talks

Kohima Oct 27 (IANS) Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya has "requested" Myanmar-based Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) to join the ongoing peace talks with the Centre a Raj Bhavan communique said on Friday.

"P.B. Acharya values the formal joining of six NNPGs (Naga National Political Groups) in peace talks and requested the NSCN-K to join the ongoing peace process so that a meaningful solution to the protracted Naga political problem is found at the earliest " the communique said.

The NSCN-K abrogated a 2001 ceasefire accord signed with the central government in March 2015 just a month before the truce was up for renewal.

Subsequently Khaplang faction rebels went on a killing spree attacking Indian soldiers in Nagaland Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.

Appreciating the efforts of the government interlocutor for Naga talks R.N. Ravi to address the long-pending issue and the positive response from the Nagas the Governor appealed to all NGOs political parties and civil society to stand united to make the peace process a success.

This week Ravi held talks with leaders of NSCN-IM Naga National Council Federal Government of Nagaland NSCN (Reformation) National People s Government of Nagaland (Non-accord) and Government Democratic Republic of Nagaland (Non-Accord).

The central government and the Working Committee of six Naga groups officially began a political dialogue on September 27 in New Delhi.
