Rs 3.96 lakh in fake notes seized in Bengal, 1 held

Kolkata Nov 4 (IANS) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have seized 198 fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with a face value of Rs 3.96 lakh and arrested a man from near India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal s Malda district an official said on Saturday.

Investigations revealed that the fake notes were smuggled into India from Bangladesh.

Acting on a tip-off accused Asikul Sekh residing in Charianantpur village near the international border was intercepted at the New Farakka Railway Station late on Friday evening the official said.

"The accused was to board the Malda Town-Patna Intercity Express. Two plastic packets were recovered from his possession which contained 198 fake notes of Rs 2 000 denomination totalling up to Rs 3.96 lakh " the official said.

As an immediate follow-up to the late-night seizure DRI officers with the support of BSF personnel and local police conducted searches at Kaliachak in Malda district where the supplier of seized FICN was said to be residing.
