Bhopal: Public Works and Environment Minister Sajjan Singh Verma today took charge of his department at the Mantralaya. After taking charge Verma said that roads in rural areas will be improved. Priority will be given to the work of fly-overs’ construction in cities to facilitate traffic. Urban roads will be upgraded.
Verma said that help of financial institutions will also be taken in the construction of roads. Information of the plan of the central government to make the routes toll-free will be taken. He said that the roads of Madhya Pradesh should be made in such a way that they become models in the country. Parking arrangements in the cities will be streamlined. Efforts will be made so that construction works are completed in the stipulated time period. Verma said that the widening of Kolar Road in Bhopal will be reviewed. Principal Secretary Public Works Mohammed Suleiman, Principal Secretary Environment Anupam Rajan and other officers were present on the occasion.
Officers must keep an eye on quality of works
After assuming charge Verma reviewed the departmental schemes in a meeting with the officials of the Public Works Department. He said that efforts will be made so that the roads of Madhya Pradesh are identified as model roads on the national level. He told officials to complete construction works of the department on time. He told the departmental officers to focus on the quality of the works. It was informed at the meeting that this year the PIU has made a programme for construction of 980 buildings at a cost of Rs 3100 crores. In addition to this, construction work of 2000-bed hospital at Hamidia Hospital premises is also in progress.
It was informed in the meeting that in the first phase under the Bharat Mala Yojana of the central government, approval in principle has been given for the construction of National Highway of about 6000 km long recommended by the state government. In the same scheme, the central government has given approval in principle for the construction of Bhopal-Indore 6-lane expressway and Bhopal Bypass. The Centre’s Express-way road costing Rs.4000 crores will reduce the distance between Indore and Bhopal by about two hours.
It was informed that the total length covering National Highway, state, main district roads and roads in rural areas is more than 70 thousand kilometers. A fully-equipped 16-storeyed building for housing facility of government officials in Bhopal has also been proposed.-Window To News
