Brazilian winger Lucas joins Tottenham from PSG

Paris Feb 1 (IANS) Brazilian winger Lucas Moura has made a permanent move from Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain to Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur both clubs announced.

Lucas 25 will wear the number 27 jersey in Spurs with his contract until 2023 reports Xinhua news agency.

"It s a new chapter in my life a new challenge for me. I ve joined a big club with big players and I look forward to playing and helping the team " Lucas told Spurs website.

Since joining PSG in January 2013 Lucas has made 229 appearances more than any other Brazilian player in the team s history scoring 46 goals and providing 50 assists.

He won four Ligue 1 titles three French Cups and four French League Cups with PSG. Capped 34 times for Brazil he won the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2013.

However Lucas was out of favour in PSG following his compatriot Neymar s record fee arrival. He showed huge disappointment at failing to position himself in the team in a recent interview.

Without any appearance for PSG in the UEFA Champions League this season he is eligible to play for Spurs in the European elite club tournament.

"He always gave his very best to try and help the team win. I would like to thank him for the five years he played with the Paris Saint-Germain jersey " declared PSG Chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

"I can play in the Champions League which is a big objective for me and to make new friends is always a pleasure. I will give my best for this club. I think we have a lot of quality and I think we can win big things " said Lucas.
