Bayern extend contract with goalkeeper Ulreich
Munich Feb 12 (IANS) Record German football champions Bayern Munich and goalkeeper Sven Ulreich have agreed on a contract extension until June 2021.
The 29-year-old back-up goalkeeper who joined Bayern from Stuttgart in 2015 has penned a new three-year deal the Bavarian giants announced on Sunday reports Xinhua.
"The past three years have shown that we can always rely on Sven Ulreich. Especially this season he has played a significant role. We are leading the Bundesliga and still have good chances to progress in the Champions League and German Cup " Bayern s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said on the club s official homepage.
Ulreich has made 17 Bundesliga appearances between the posts so far as starting goalkeeper. German international Manuel Neuer has been sidelined since September 2017 with a metatarsal fracture.
"I am very happy that Bayern will continue to rely on me in the future giving me the trust to reach the club s goals in the next few years. Besides my family and I feel very happy in Munich " Ulreich said.
Bayern currently sit atop the Bundesliga standings with an 18-point advantage ahead of their closest rivals Leipzig.
Bayern will on Tuesday meet Turkish club Besiktas in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League pre-quarterfinals.
