Yakshas team wins eSports championship

Mumbai Feb 23 (IANS) Team Yakshas has emerged winners of the first edition of "U Cypher" a multi-platform eSports championship.

The 14-member team defeated the Sherdils in a thrilling match to win the title.

Kicked off as an intense month-long championship on MTV the "U Cypher" finale was a special 90-minute episode that witnessed the two teams battling it out. Along with the title the winning team also won a prize money of Rs 51 lakh.

The teams indulged in games like DOTA 2 and CS: GO on computer Real Cricket 2017 on mobile and Tekken 7 on PS4.

In the overall standings Yakshas and Sherdils were followed by the Marksmen and Akramaks in third and fourth place respectively read a statement.

Vivek "Acrid" Gore Yakshas captain said: "It s a dream come true to win one of the biggest eSports tournaments in India. U Cypher has been a life-altering moment for all of us. The championship was very well organised and felt like an international tournament."

Ronnie Screwvala Founder U Sports said: "Our endeavour was to give talented young eSports athletes an audience with the country and raise awareness for eSports to be recognised as a sports discipline."
