David Ferrer moves to third round at Indian Wells
Indian Wells (US) March 12 (IANS) Spain s David Ferrer seeded 29th at Indian Wells defeated local boy Tennys Sandgren 6-2 7-6 (3) in straight sets to advance to the third round of the tennis tourney.
The 35-year-old Ferrer took an hour and 47 minutes to knock off Sandgren ranked 59th by the ATP at the season s first Masters 1000 tourney on Sunday reports Efe.
The Spaniard in the first encounter between the two players clearly outmatched the 26-year-old American right from the start although Sandgren broke his service for the first time in the 12th game of the second set and took the match into a tie-break.
In the third round Ferrer will go up against the winner of the match between Argentina s Juan Martin Del Potro and Australia s Alex de Minaur.
