Hrubesch named interim coach of Germany women s football team

Berlin March 13 (IANS) Former Germany international Horst Hrubesch is stepping in as interim head coach of the women s national team after the dismissal of coach Steffi Jones the German football association (DFB) announced on Tuesday.

Hrubesch a former Germany forward in the 1980s led the men s under-21 Olympic team to a silver medal at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro reports Efe.

"I m very thankful that Horst Hrubesch is willing to help us out. We all know how important qualifying for the World Cup is in terms of the development of women s football " DFB vice president of women s football Hannelore Ratzeburg said.

Hrubesch will lead the women s team in the upcoming two games against the Czech Republic and Slovenia on April 7 and 10 respectively according to the DFB statement.
