Pliskova wins Stuttgart Open, earns 10th career title

Stuttgart (Germany) April 30 (IANS) The Czech Republic s Karolina Pliskova clinched the Stuttgart Open title after defeating the US wildcard Coco Vandeweghe 7-6 (7-2) 6-4 here.

This was Pliskova s first title of 2018 and the tenth of her career reports Efe.

The former world No. 1 needed one hour and 56 minutes to defeat Vandeweghe in the final round of the WTA event held on clay courts on Sunday.

Pliskova currently world No. 6 took revenge for her loss to world No. 16 Vandeweghe in their previous meeting bringing her head-to-head record against the US player to 3-3.

Vandeweghe was denied her third career title in her fifth final-round appearance after having knocked out world No. 1 Simona Halep of Romania in the third round.
