America thrash Pumas in Mexican league quarters

Mexico City May 3 (IANS) Mateus Uribe and Jeremy Menez struck twice each as Club America thrashed Pumas UNAM 4-1 in the quarter-finals of the 2018 Mexican football league s Clausura tournament.

Uribe got America off to a quick start scoring in the 1st minute of Wednesday s match reported Efe news agency.

The Colombian added another goal in the 38th minute while Menez scored in the 30th and 61st minutes for coach Miguel Herrera s America squad.

Chilean Nicolas Castillo scored the Pumas lone goal off a penalty in the 44th minute.

The Pumas however struggled to get back on track and the visitors took control of the match in the second half.

America s defence played with tremendous patience keeping the Pumas off balance and putting their side one step closer to the semi-finals.

The second leg of the quarter-finals will be played on Saturday at Mexico City s Azteca Stadium where America hopes to use their home advantage to advance to the final four.
