Wild card Siddharth stuns Royson in ITF tennis championship

Kolkata July 3 (IANS) Local wild card Siddharth Verma stunned fifth seed Royson Kwan of Singapore to enter the quarter-finals of the men s singles event at the red clay courts of the Calcutta South Club Senior ITF Tennis Championship here on Tuesday.
Verma took less than an hour to drub Kwan by a dominating 6-1 6-1.
Verma will face Dilip Mohanty in the quarter-final on Wednesday.
Another wild card entrant in men s singles Saurav Chakraborty did not have a similar fate as he went down to ex-national champion Nitten Kirrtane seeded first in the draw by a one-sided 1-6 0-6.
Meanwhile wild card entrant Asish Sen proved to be too good for Great Britain s Christopher New as the former won the pre-quarter final by an easy 6-1 6-1.
Sen will face 4th seeded Naresh Khatri in the quarters on Wednesday.
