Uruguay midfielder Sanchez joins Brazil s Santos
Riode Janeiro July 25 (IANS) Uruguay international Carlos Sanchez has joined Santos on a three-year deal the Brazilian club has announced.
The 33-year-old midfielder arrived from Mexico s Monterrey where he made 91 league appearances in three seasons reports Xinhua news agency.
"I m very happy to be here. I never imagined playing for a team with so much history " Sanchez said in a Santos statement on Tuesday.
Sanchez who played in three of Uruguay s five matches at this summer s World Cup in Russia is the second high profile player to join Santos this month. The club made famous by Pele also signed Costa Rica captain Bryan Ruiz on a two-and-a-half year contract.
Santos eight-time winners of Brazil s Serie A championship are currently 15th in the league s 20-team standings after 13 matches.
