Spain win European women s U-19 title

Biel (Switzerland) July 31 (IANS) Maria Llompart converted a penalty to give Spain a 1-0 victory over Germany in the final of the 2018 UEFA European Women s U-19 Championship.
The win here on Monday made reigning champions Spain the only team other Germany to successfully defend the title as well as the first country to hoist the Women s U-17 and U-19 football trophies in the same year reports EFE news agency.
Spain dominated from the start in front of 4 000 spectators at Biel s Tissot Arena and it was only the solid performance of German goalkeeper Stina Johannes -- with some help from the posts -- that prevented the Spanish from running away with the contest.
Playing their fifth consecutive final Spain were relentless on the attack but the score remained 0-0 going into the final 10 minutes.
It was then that Elena Julve drew a foul and Llompart scored on the free kick to settle the match in regulation.
Llompart and Julve both 17 and teammates with Espanyol were new additions to the squad.
