Asiad 2018: PM Modi hails rowing performance as stupendous
New Delhi Aug 24 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Indian rowing team s performance as "stupendous" at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia on Friday.
"Congratulations to the team of Rohit Kumar and Bhagwan Singh for winning the Bronze in the men s Lightweight Doubles Sculls at the @asiangames2018. Their stupendous performance has made the entire country extremely happy " Modi said in a tweet.
Rowers Sawarn Singh Dattu Bhokanal Om Prakash and Sukhmeet Singh pocketed gold in the men s quadruple sculls category -- only the second gold for India since they began taking part in the rowing events at the Asian Games.
The first was won by Bajrang Lal Takhar in the men s singles sculls at the 2010 Games.
Dushyant won the bronze in the men s lightweight single sculls final while Bhagwan Singh and Rohit Kumar too finished third in the men s lightweight double sculls final.
Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore tweeted: "What a splendid team performance from Rohit Kumar and Bhagwan Singh to bag a bronze in Men s Lightweight Doubles Sculls at #AsianGames2018! I congratulate them for their great performance."
