Edmund outlasts Berrettini in marathon 3-set win at China Open
Beijing Oct 3 (IANS) Britain s Kyle Edmund defeated Italy s Matteo Berrettini on Wednesday to advance to the quarter-finals of the China Open in Beijing.
Fifth-seeded Edmund won 7-5 6-7 7-5 in a closely fought encounter to eliminate the world number 58 from the tournament reports Efe news.
The British number one took two hours and 48 minutes to finally overcome the Italian s challenge.
Edmund was just two points from defeat in the third deciding set before staging a late comeback.
He advances to the quarter-finals of the China Open where he will face Croatian qualifier Dusan Lajovic.
