Serena beats Bencic in US-Switzerland match at Hopman Cup

Perth, Jan 1 (IANS) Serena Williams of the US defeated Switzerland's Belinda Bencic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a duel between the US and Switzerland on the second day of the Hopman Cup Group B here on Tuesday.Serena added her second victory in the competition held at Perth Arena after her victory over Maria Sakkari in the clash of the American team against Greece, reports Efe news.Williams needed an hour and 42 minutes to beat the Swiss player, whose compatriot Roger Federer defeated American Frances Tiafoe 6-4, 6-1 earlier on Tuesday.The winner of the match will be decided in the mixed doubles match of US Serena and Tiafoe against Swiss Federer and Bencic.The winners of Group A and B are set to meet in the final on January 5.
