Ethiopian runners dominate Rabat Marathon
Rabat (Morocco) March 6 (IANS) Ethiopian athletes dominated the Rabat International Marathon as they swept most of the medals in both the men s and women s categories here.
In the men s race on Sunday Ethiopia s Fikadu Kebebe Debele won the gold medal after crossing the finish line in a time of 2:09:37 followed by Kenyan Kigen Sammy at 2:09:39. Another Ethiopian Samuel Getachew Demie came third at 2:09:44 reports Xinhua news agency.
In the women s category Alemu Worknesch won the title in 2:30:04. She was followed by Kenya s Jeptoo Eunice with a time of 2:33:41 and the other Ethiopian Bekelu Beji Geletu in 2:34:05.
Around 9 000 athletes took part in the marathon.
