Telangana CM hails women s cricket team captain

Hyderabad July 13 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday congratulated Indian women s cricket team captain Mithali Raj for becoming the highest run-scorer in the One-Day International (ODI) format.

Mithali who lives in Hyderabad has so far scored 6 000 runs in the 50-over cricket. She achieved the feat during India s World Cup game against Australia on Wednesday in Bristol England.

KCR as the Chief Minister is known said it was a proud moment for the country as Mithali created a record as the highest run getter and Bengal pace ace Jhulan Goswami became the highest wicket taker.

He noted that both these young women re-created the playing days of Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev.

KCR said Hyderabad girls excelled in cricket tennis and badminton and won awards inspiring more girls.
