Melissa Dohme was into her teen when she fell in love with boy Burton, they were in school together and dates since then, with teenage terming oil she realize their relationship is not the way she ever imagined. She noticed the change of behavior in him when she took to university. The boy was getting violent in his approach and many a time they had high fights. She told the BBC: “He became very jealous. He would be little mean and not want me to succeed. “He would lie about things and if I confronted him he had an explosive temper.”
In the year 2011 one day after heavy drinking he attacked her, the complain of which she made to police and the boy was charged with domestic battery and was sentenced to 10hrs of jail.
Melissa told him she don’t want to continue on relationship and thought their relationship is over, however the boy never agrees and on 24 January 2012 he called her at 2am and said he needed closure from their romance. Said Melissa, that time taking Melissa by surprise and manically attacked on her with knife in the neck, arms, face and hand a boy who had been her high school sweetheart when she was just twenty year old in the year 2012,reported BBC. “I didn’t listen to my intuition telling me it was wrong, and that was the biggest mistake I ever made.“I took my pepper spray and phone, thinking I could protect myself if I needed to,” she said.“I remember the pain of the first few but after that I went into fight-or-flight mode,” she recalled.
“I tried to fight back and bite his hand. I was punching and screaming and doing everything I could, but I kept falling to the ground because I was losing so much blood.”A young couple intervened and called 911. Burton went to his car to get an even bigger blade and Melissa said he had “every intention of killing me”.
Soon police arrived and a helicopter airlifted her to hospital. “My wounds were severe. I had a broken skull and jaw. My head and nose were fractured,” she said.
This is first when she saw Cameron who was in the rescue team and was no sign of ignition of any thought under that horrific situation.
Melissa spent many Day during her recovery in ICU and Burton the boy who attacked her tried to kill self but was not successful. Later, caught by police and now he is serving life sentence. Melissa feared she would be “single for the rest of my life” because of emotional impact due to the whole of the event.
Determined to not let the attack rule her life, she began out spoke of the incident of her life to others and during such speaking event she met Cameron Hill, one of the emergency service operators who saved her life. “Cameron showed me how to improve my shooting and I now have a concealed-carry permit. It makes me feel better, that I can protect myself.” Melissa said.
And now it’s like happy ending, Cameron proposal to marry her, he may wash away all buries she had from past, Cameron Proposed to Melissa at Tampa during a base ball game, Melissa said yes to the proposal and now Cameron and she are set to marry this year reported BBC.
