CBI Court orders life term for RTI activist Shehla Masood's killers

Bhopal: The special court (CBI) Indore has convicted four persons including Zahdia Parvez in the high-profile murder case of RTI activist Shehla Masood sentencing them to undergo life imprisonment on Saturday.
The special court court delivered the verdict handing life-imprisonment to Zahida Parvez, her friend Saba Farooqui and shooters Shaqib Ali alias Danger and Taabish Khan while clemency was offered to fifth accused Irfan, a Kanpur resident who had turned government witness in the case.
Judge B K Paloda, presiding over the Special CBI Court, pronounced Zahida, the prime accused, and three others —Saba, Saqib Ali and Taabish — guilty in the murder case probed by the CBI. The court sentenced all the four persons for murder and criminal conspiracy.
Shehla Masood, 38, an event management executive turned RTI-activist, was shot dead outside her house in broad daylight at Old Safia College Road, Koh-e-Fiza on August 16, 2011 while she was sitting in a car.
The CBI investigated the case and registered a case in this regard on Sept 3, 2011. During the probe, it was found that Zahida Parvez disliked Shehla because of her growing closeness with former BJP MLA Dhurv Narayan Singh.
Zahida, who is married and was also in a relationship with Singh asked the MLA to keep away from Shehla. However, she grew intensely jealous, suspecting that Singh continued to meet Shehla.
As per prosecution, Zahida hired Saqib Ali as contract-killer and shooters Taabish and Irfan were given the task to kill Shehla. The RTI activist was killed while going to attend a demonstration in support of Lokpal bill.
CBI arrested five persons including Zahida, her friend Saba, Saqib, Taabish and Irfan. Irfan later turned approver. The court acquitted him. The other four have been sentenced to life imprisonment. The defence lawyers Sanjay Sharma and Sunil Shrivastava said they are going to challenge the verdict against their clients in the High Court.-WTN
