Modi Government to change the Essential Commodities Act
Modi Government going to make 'big change' to provide fair price to farmers
AUG 31 (WTN) - Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been promising to increase the income of farmers in his election meetings. The support of farmers is said to have contributed a lot to the BJP's resounding victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. Now the Modi Government is going to take a big step soon to fulfill the promise of increasing the income of farmers. It is being said that traders will also benefit from the major changes being made for the good of the farmers.
In fact, to increase the income of farmers, the Modi Government is preparing to change the Essential Commodities Act. According to the information received from the media, a draft of the change in this act has been prepared. It is being said that the Ministry of Consumer Affairs will hold a meeting with the states on September 3 and try to reach an agreement on the draft so that farmers can get its benefits.
For your information, let you know that after the changes in the Essential Commodities Act, the new provisions will be made easier for traders to buy crops from farmers. According to the new provisions, the Essential Commodities Act will be implemented only at the time of famine and war. Apart from this, it can be implemented even if the price of essential commodities increases by more than 50 per cent.
Actually, due to this act, traders are not able to stock the important goods. Currently, this act applies to items like sugar, rice, seeds, vegetable oil. Since the traders are unable to stock these goods, due to which the farmers are not able to get the right price for their crops. Both farmers and traders will benefit from the change in this act. This is why, because due to this act, till now traders are not able to stock more than a limit, but after the change in the act, now traders will be able to stock more than a limit.
Changes in this act will benefit the farmers so that traders will be able to buy the crops of the farmers easily. Farmers can still sell a few crops to a trader in limited quantities. But after changes in this act, traders will be able to easily buy and stock the crop of the farmer. Due to this, farmers will be able to get a fair price for their crops.
For your information, let you know that at present, there is a provision of seven years punishment if found guilty under the Essential Commodities Act. The Government is also considering loosening the provision of punishment in the Act.
The Modi Government argues that changes in the Essential Commodities Act will benefit both farmers and traders. While farmers will get fair prices for their crops, traders will also be able to buy crops at the right time and stock them appropriately. Now it has to be seen whether this new change of the Modi Government can really benefit the farmers and traders?
