Elephant Roopkali Becomes Mother

Bhopal : Elephant Roopkali of Panna Tiger Reserve gave birth to a healthy female baby elephant yesterday. Both Roopkali and her baby Rupahli are healthy. With the birth of Rupahli, the number of elephants in the reserve has risen to 15.
Female elephants Roopkali and Anarkali were purchased from Sonpur fair. Roopkali has given birth to five more babies earlier. Elephants have a major role to play in the security of the reserve.
Elephant in charge Udaymani Singh Parihar said that Roopkali is nearly 55 years old and out of her six babies; five are alive and are engaged in the park’s security. Elephants graze in the jungle in the morning. Their evening diet includes rotis made out of 9 kg wheat flour, I kg besan and 250 gm salt. The oldest elephant of the park is Vatsala who being toothless is served dalia in the morning and wheat-rice laddoos weighing 5 kg each.WTN
