Much-needed relief for parents of MP
Private schools can charge only tuition fee during the lockdown period: Shivraj Singh Chauhan
MAY 22 (WTN) - In a welcome move, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Chouhan has asked all private schools in the state to charge only tuition fee from parents of students and drop any other additional and overhead fees that are normally charged. This is to provide relief to parents in the lockdown phase where curtailed incomes from businesses and jobs have depleted incomes of many middle-class homes.
The parents’ bodies of the state had been demanding from the government to instruct schools to restrict the fees to just tuition fees and do away with other charges like bus fees, mess fees, sports or library fees etc. which often escalate the overall cost of education. Those parents who had already paid the fees in April, would either get refund or their payment would be adjusted in the future instalments, though the decision lies with the schools.
In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent economic debacle that the common man is facing, many states have taken ameliorative steps like fee waiver. Schools in MP had earlier decided to waive only 30 to 50 per cent of mess and transportation fees, following which the parents had raised a hue and cry and finally the intervention of the CM has apparently settled matters for the present.
