Andhra Pradesh bars liquor transport from other states

Monday - October 26, 2020 11:45 pm , Category : INDIA
Amaravati, Oct 26 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh government has barred the transport of liquor manufactured outside the state over which no tax or duty has been paid to the state.
"No transport of any intoxicant which is manufactured or produced outside the state and on which applicable duties, taxes, fees etc, payable under the AP Excise Act, 1968 and the rules, notifications, orders etc, issued there under are not paid is permitted," said special chief secretary Rajat Bhargava.
In the event of illegal transport in violation of AP Excise Act, 1968, it will be a punishable offence under Section 34 of the same act.
However, with prior permission from a competent authority, there is some relaxation which is not elaborated.
Illegal transport of liquor is causing loss of revenue to the southern state as a large number of cases of liquor transfer from other states has been noticed without paying duty.
Many people are getting caught trying to sneak in liquor from Telangana.
"This is not only resulting in loss of revenue to the exchequer but also transport of liquor through non-duty paid means," he said.
According to Section 9 of the excise act, no intoxicant shall be imported into the state except on payment of countervailing duty and fees.
Similarly, liquor is also not allowed to be transferred into other states from different states without paying taxes under respective excise laws, such as Section 34 of Telangana Excise Act, Section 32 of Karnataka Excise Act, 1965.
Likewise, Section 55 of Abkari Act of Kerala state and Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act, 1937.
