Record purchase of 37.26 lakh MT paddy on support price in state

Bhopal 19 January 2021: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that this year there had been record purchase of 37.26 lakh metric tone paddy on support price in the state. Payment of Rs 5 thousand crore has been made to the farmers and 90 percent of paddy has been transported. Food Department, MARKFED, Civil Supplies Corporation and all related departments deserve to be congratulated for the best paddy procurement in the state.

Chief Minister Chouhan instructed that the remaining payment of farmers should also be made soon and remaining paddy should be transported at the earliest. Also, the milling work of the purchased paddy should also be done as soon as possible. Chief Minister Chouhan was reviewing the work of paddy procurement on support price in Mantralaya today. Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Bisahu Lal Singh, Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, Principal Secretary Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, Principal Secretary Manoj Govil, Managing Director MARKFED P. Narhari etc. were present in the meeting.

Purchase exceeded in all districts compared to last year

There was excess paddy purchase in all the districts of the state on support price except Vidisha compared to last year. Districts with maximum procurement compared to last year include Hoshangabad, Raisen and Sehore with 217 percent, 310 percent and 321 percent purchase respectively. A total of 25 lakh 85 thousand MT of paddy was purchased in the state in the year 2019-20 and 21 lakh 96 thousand MT of paddy in the year 2018-19.

Purchase of 2 lakh 24 thousand MT of jowar and millet

A total of 2 lakh 24 thousand 919 metric tonnes of sorghum and millet have been purchased on support price this year. A total of 6491 farmers have sold jowar and 35926 farmers have sold millet on support price. The total purchase amount is Rs 497 crore, against which a payment of Rs 496 crore has been made to the farmers.

Milling work started during procurement

For the first time the government has made a policy of milling during paddy procurement. During procurement, 60 thousand 597 metric tonnes of paddy was lifted by the millers. Maximum lifting of 37 thousand 800 MT was done by millers in Jabalpur district. Instructions were given for milling of the entire paddy purchased before the rainy season.

Registration of farmers for Rabi will be done from 25 January to 20 February

This year, the registration work for procurement on support price in Rabi will be done from 25 January to 20 February. For this, a total of 4529 registration centres have been set up in the state, whereas 2991 registration centres were set up last year.

New system of registration of Sikami / sharecroppers

Chief Minister Chouhan said that new arrangements are being made for registration of sublets/ sharecroppers in Rabi this year. Under this, registration will be made for purchase on support price for contracted area up to 5 hectares – Window to News
