Manila-bound flight lands at Kolkata as passenger goes into labour

Kolkata May 5 (IANS) A Cebu Pacific flight flying to Manila from Kuwait made an emergency landing at the international airport here after a pregnant female passenger went into labour pains airline sources said on Friday.

Flight 5J 019 bound for Manila from Kuwait was diverted to Kolkata.

The expectant mother reported contractions mid-air. She was assisted by the cabin crew along with three other passengers who were nurses while the plane was diverted to the nearest airport a source said.

The flight landed at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International airport at about 3 p.m.

The passenger was admitted in a city hospital. The airline contacted the Philippine Embassy in India for immediate assistance of the passenger sources said.
