Public movement of economic empowerment through SHGs

Bhopal: A public movement will be launched for economic empowerment through self-help-groups (SHGs) in the state. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today issued instructions to make a strategy for strengthening self-help groups at a meeting held here in this regard. There are more than two lakh SHGs active in the state at present. Chief Secretary B.P. Singh was present at the meeting.

Chief Minister Chouhan said at the meeting that a strategy has to be made keeping in mind the possibilities and new areas for the work of self-help-groups. He instructed to work in mission mode for the strengthening of self-help-groups and for this a target has to be fixed and a roadmap has to be made.

It was told at the meeting that in the state 1, 79,000 self-help-groups are active under the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, 17,000 SHGs under Woman and Child Development Department and 12 thousand self-help-groups are active under Urban Administration and Development Department. Self-help-groups have done a good job in Anuppur, Betul and Hoshangabad districts under Livelihood Mission. Arrangements for training of self-help-groups are being made in areas like Food Processing and Textile Manufacturing. Also 11 haat bazaars are being operated by self-help-groups in six districts under the Tejasvini Yojana of Woman and Child Development Department.

Additional Chief Secretary Panchayat and Rural Development R.S. Julaniya, Principal Secretary Woman and Child Development J.N. Kansotiya, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Ashok Vernawal, Secretary to Chief Minister Vivek Agrawal and Livelihood Mission Director L.M. Belwal were present at the meeting.-WTN
