Make control room as soon as Monsoon begins

Bhopal: Flood-prone districts should make control rooms on June 15 or as soon as monsoon rains begin. Superintendent- Land Records should be made the control room incharge. State-level control room should open in the Relief Commissioner Office and its telephone number will be 0755-2441419.

Principal Secretary Revenue and Relief Commissioner Arun Pandey said that action plan should be prepared beforehand for prevention and relief from floods at the district level. On the possibility of floods, the control room should remain open 24x7. Information of daily rain should be faxed to Director Meteorological Centre on 0755-2552743 and e-mailed to mausambhopal@rediffmail.com, Flood relief equipments and boat etc. should be repaired and trained jawans should be deployed.

Pandey said that in a flood situation help of police force and homeguard should be taken as and when need arises. Constant contact with nearest Cantonment officials and the Collector of the flood-prone district should be maintained to ensure quick assistance of army in flood relief work.

The Relief Commissioner said that special attention should be given on releasing water from reservoirs. Food items and life saving drugs should be stored in far-flung areas. Information should be sought about availability of flood relief materials from private sources. Drains should be cleaned. Warning boards should be put up in roads and bridges which are prone to submergence in rains. Action should be taken against vehicle owners who violate this warning.
