Nalini Murugan or Nalini Sriharan, a forgotten name under the sand of time, the women who break
into the news when her book released last year in the month of November “Rajiv Kolai; Marikapatta ZUnmaigalum Priyanka Nalini Santhippum”, Nalini Murugan a life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, who has already served 26 years of term behind the bars under her punishment which pushed to more of 16 year and is on.
Nalini, a serving life sentence of an assassination of then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi has, knocked the doors of the United Nations Human Right Commission seeking help to rescue as she urges the intervention and urges to the Government of India to release her.
In the petition sent to the High Commissioner of the UNHRC in Geneva, Switzerland, Nalini has alleged that “At the time of my arrest on June 13, 1991, I was pregnant and gave birth to my daughter in prison in 1992. My daughter now lives abroad and her paternal uncle’s house in the UK. I am the only woman prisoner in the country who has spent more than 26 years as a life sentence.” Mentioning the conspirator of Mahatma Gandhi, Gopal Vinayak Godse, she said he was released from prison though he was sentenced to deportation for life."
Nalini is the only surviving member of the squad of five who were behind the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. Arrested on June14 1991, she was sentenced to death along with 25 accused who later by the order of Supreme Court of India, left out 4 in numbers including Nalini for the death penalty. However later due to pregnancy and upon the intervention of Sonia Gandhi her term of death was converted to life imprisonment. -Window To News
