Keep looking great even when it rains!

Tuesday - July 26, 2016 8:43 am , Category : WTN SPECIAL

However much we may long for monsoons after the scorching Sun’s wrath, the season has evil intentions for our hair.  The rain outside affects your hair– leaving it frizzy or flat – even when you are indoors – thanks to the humidity in the atmosphere.

Though the best remedy is to avoid getting drenched in rain as the pollutants in it weakens the shaft bonds, making your hair limp, this isn’t possible every time.  So, with WTN, let’s go through some of the tips that could help you look great even in this wet season.

Tips for stunning hair this monsoon
Keep your hair dry: During monsoons, we lose around 200 strands everyday –thrice the usual days. Dry prevents scalp problems, checks excessive hair loss and of course, dandruff. Wavy or curly hair absorbs more moisture from air. So ensure you are in a dry zone.

Shampoo less: Using shampoo regularly can increase the number of hair fall every wash. Just twice is enough, but if you still feel your hair is sticky and dirty, make it thrice- but no more. However, it is essential to wash the rain water for it could give you an itchy scalp and even make it susceptible to fungal infections and dandruff.

Use a mild shampoo: It is always better to use a shampoo which would pamper your hair if the washes are frequent. It will revitalize the hair and restore its bounce, volume and strength. Frequent washes would also be the choice of those with oily scalp.

Conditioning religiously: Humidity lead to coarse, dry, frizzy and weak hair. Hence, the best way to manage them is to condition them regularly and be the owner of soft and silky tresses.
If you so desire, opt for home remedies like egg yolk, curd etc,. Apply your conditioner only on the lengths and ends of your hair and not on the scalp. Beer is a natural and good conditioner.

Don’t tie wet hair: Wet hair breaks easily as the roots become soft. Wet hair swells and breaks easily. After a shower, just cover the wet hair with a towel and then gradually wipe off the dripping water. Allow it to dry naturally and do not use a drier.

Stay hydrated: One more thing; don’t forget to drink lots of water to stay hydrated. This will do wonders for your hair! So, while rain may fall till the clouds are empty, your hair won’t fall now that you know how to deal with it. There’s nothing quite like that feeling of getting wet in the rain with a song in your heart, nothing in your mind and all your hair on your head!

Choose healthy diet: The right thing for healthy hair throughout the year is to avoid junk food (including caffeine) and have a healthy meal. Caffeine dehydrates and junk food contributes to hair thinning and hair fall are strong indications of a deficient body. Have protein-rich diet like, soyabean, eggs, low-fat cheese, beans, salmon, carrots, whole grains, dark green veggies, kidney beans, nuts, low-fat dairy products etc,. A small bowl of sprouts, fresh fruits or raw salad every day can work wonders for your hair.

Avoid hair styling: However tempted you may be, refrain from styling your hair in monsoon.  Tying up the hair can trapping the water and the humidity could make it even limp. If you have long hair, just tie it into a loose bun or a ponytail.  Short hair the best teasers for the season. So, it is best to avoid elaborate hairdos

Be wise while choosing styling products: Chemical based products make your hair excessively oily and harm the hair and scalp in the wet weather. The glum and gels also result in dandruff and lead to hair fall. Several people with frizzy hair use hair cream to smoothen them, but the hair absorbs moisture and makes it even stickier. It is always advisable to stick to alcohol-based creams and gels since they have a drying effect on hair and leave moisturising products for the winter months.

Binge on aloe vera: This miracle plant is a wonder cure for monsoon hair problems. Just massage the gel from the leaf directly or that available in stores on to the scalp to treat dandruff, split ends and hair fall problems. It balances the pH level, reduces hair bacteria, relieves scalp itching, promotes hair growth and eliminates dandruff among many other notable benefits.

Oil massage: A good oil massage gives a natural boost of moisture and revitalizes the damaged strands too. For deep conditioning just put on a plastic cap and/or a hot towel. However, remember that the massage must be done with light fingers in circular motions lest you break the already weak ones.  Also, do not put excess oil for then you will have to over shampoo, which again can hurt the hair.

Combat dandruff: Humidity tends to cause dandruff. Use mild anti-dandruff shampoo with menthol in it as it refreshes and invigorates clean hair.  The best home remedy for getting rid of dandruff is to rinse hair with neem water after washing it. One can also apply neem and turmeric paste for 15 minutes.

Use wide-teeth comb and limit use of driers: With wide-teeth combs there are little chances of hair breaks. Secondly, comb the hair when it is almost dry and make sure not to share your comb with other as it could pass on dandruff to you.  Also, one must limit the use of hair driers as it could damage the strands easily.
