June 20 (WTN)- The World Cup is barely in the second round of group-play games, and there have already been five occasions when a team has accidentally scored on itself.
This is after year 1998 saw six “own” goals . Own goal is considered when a goal scored by a player accidentally playing the ball into his own team's net.
So far, Morocco, Australia, Nigera, Poland and Egypt all have an own goal to their name, and to make matters worse, in three of those matches the own goal was the difference.
Social media is full of humour, The Golden Boot will go to “Own goal”, instead of Cristiano Ronaldo who currently has three goals along with Denis Cheryshev.
