National Deworming Day.

Saturday - February 10, 2024 12:49 pm , Category : WTN SPECIAL

National Deworming Day (NDD) is a crucial public health initiative aimed at fighting parasitic worm infections, particularly in children, to ensure their overall well-being and development. It was instituted by the Government of India in 2015 and has since become a cornerstone in the nation's efforts to address the burden of neglected tropical diseases.

Parasitic worms, such as roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms commonly affect children in tropical and subtropical regions, leading to malnutrition, anemia and impaired cognitive development. NDD seeks to break the cycle of transmission by administering deworming tablets to millions of children across the country.

Worm infections often lead to absenteeism and poor academic performance among school children. By deworming children, NDD promotes regular school attendance, enhances cognitive function and fosters an environment for learning, contributing to the nation's human capital development.

NDD employs a mass drug administration approach, wherein deworming tablets are distributed free of cost to all eligible children in schools and anganwadi canters. Extensive outreach campaigns are conducted to raise awareness and encourage participation among parents and caregivers.

With continued efforts and collective action, NDD serves as a light of hope in the global fight against parasitic worm infections.
