Ekta Utsav organized in Sangai and Kohima under “Ek Bharat-Shresth Bharat”

Bhopal: While Sangai Mahotsav will be organized in Imphal (Manipur), Hornbill festival will be organized in Kohima (Nagaland) under “Ek Bharat-Shresth Bharat” scheme. Folk artistes of Madhya Pradesh will give attractive performances of folk dances Karama and Saila during the event. Ek Bharat-Shresth Bharat is actually a festival of unity in diversity in Indian culture.

A 16-member team led by folk artistes group head Patiram Marco (Dindori) will give its performance at the Sangai festival on November 28 and 29. A folk artist group of Madhya Pradesh will give dance performance at the Hornbill festival on December 2. It may be noted that Karma and Saila are popular dance forms of the Gond tribe.

Karma dance

Karma dance is an inspiration for karm. Villagers consider Shram (Labour) as their Karma. In eastern Madhya Pradesh we celebrate Karma Puja festival. There is Karma dance in the festival. Adivasis residing in Vindhya and Satpuda areas do not perform karma puja, instead they perform karma dance only for happiness, enthusiasm and inspiration. Except rainy season, Gond adivasis perform karma dance in all seasons. This dance develops amidst the busy activities of life because of which the Karma songs have a lot of variety. In Madhya Pradesh Karma dance song has a wide area. Its expanse can be seen in Gond and Baiga adivasis from far-flung Chhattisgarh to Mandla.

Saila dance

Saila dance is performed in the moonlit nights of the autumn. The name Saila comes from the long stick in hand during the dance. The dance is popularly known to be performed to appease Adidev. It is said that upset with Sarguja’ Rani, Adidev went to Badhesur Amarkantak. There the dance began after cutting bamboos. Karma, Saila are popular dance forms of Gond tribe.-Windowtonews
