Farming is Foundation of Indians’ Life: Minister Smt. Chitnis

Inter – State Workshop of ICAR begins at Burhanpur 

Bhopal: Minister for Woman and Child Development Smt. Archana Chitnis said that the farming is the foundation of Indians’ life. She mentioned that our traditional food grains like maize, kodo-kutki, jwar-bajra etc. have proved healthy and nutritious food for the human life. It is our social responsibility to make the farming a public movement up to the village level for nutrition literacy and nutrition beside current agriculture research. Smt. Chitnis was addressing the zonal inter-state workshop of Indian Council of Agriculture Research begun at Burhanpur.

It may be mentioned that this is the first inter-state workshop organized at district level. Vice Chancellors of 5 Universities of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Chhatisgarh, Directors of 15 institutes of Indian Council of Agriculture Research, 105 Agriculture Scientists of Agriculture Science Centers, Representatives and Farmers took part in the workshop. During the three day workshop, an outline to prepare a district wise action plan mainly on agriculture for nutrition, bio diversity conservation and to double the agriculture income will be chalked out.

Smt. Archana Chitnis while addressing the inaugural session of the workshop said that Burhanpur area has banana, cotton and horticulture related produces in abundance. She expressed the hope that practical suggestions will come to the fore from this workshop. She further stated that agriculture research is extremely needed keeping in account the small and marginal farmers. Beside this, agriculture scientists are required to work for improvement in the income of the farmers, looking at the aggregate form of the agriculture-animal husbandry-fisheries and other normal activities.

Minister Smt. Chitnis stated that attention should be paid on nutrition sensitive activities. Nutrition Smart, Market Smart, Climate Smart Farming have to be developed for this, she added.-Windowtonews
