Widow Kusma Bai gets concrete house

Bhopal: Sixty-five-year-old widow Kusma Bai Kanouje’s dream of a concrete house has been fulfilled through Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Dhamnai village of Badwani district. She now wishes that her younger son becomes a patwari and the two daughters of her elder son study and become doctors. For this Kusma Bai has a free space outside her newly-constructed house where her younger son Mannalal and two granddaughters Vandana and Payal sit and study under the light of a bulb.
About 7 kms away from Badwani Nagar in Dhamnai village, Kusma Bai works as a labourer and fends for her family after the death of her husband. The produce on her 1.25 acre land is not sufficient to look after her family for the whole year. At such a time, the dream of a concrete house remained a dream. When Kusma Bai came to know that she was going to receive Rs 1 lakh 20 thousand under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Rs 18,000 under MNREGA as wages for labour, she met the Sarpanch and took the benefit of the scheme. Mother and son worked as labourers to construct their own houise and gave shape to their dream house.
About 564 families live in Dhamnai village out of which 103 families have already constructed their houses under Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana. Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 25 more families have also constructed their houses in this village. 561 families out of 564 families are registered under BPL category. At such a time one can sense the importance of Mukhya Mantri and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana only after visiting this village.-Windowtonews
