Women Manufacturing Decomposable Bags, Alternative to Polythene

Bhopal: Women, who were making their both the ends meet by petty domestic jobs like sweeping, mopping and washing utensils have become self-dependent by manufacturing decomposable bags, the alternative to polythene from the assistance received under the Deendayal Rashtriya Ajivika Mission. They are making every effort to make their city, Gwalior a polythene free city.
The Gwalior municipal corporation has provided them a place in the community hall of Harishankarpuram colony for the time being to run their business. With the assistance of Aas Welfare Foundation, 15 women of Chandrabadni Naka and other slums of the vicinity have formed a self-help group of their own. The head of this organization Smt. Anuradha Ghodke has got them trained for running the group smoothly.
In order to conserve environment, Madhya Pradesh Government has taken a decision to prevent use of polythene bags. This women group is working hard to fulfill the intention of the government. The Municipal Corporation Gwalior has provided them 3 sewing machines under the Urban National Livelihood Mission.
Special cloth bags manufactured by the group are fully decomposable and can be destroyed easily after the use. It is evident that these bags do not cause harm to the environment and do not become cause of pollution and squalor.
The President of the group Radha Jha and Secretary Chhuttan including all other women work together daily. They always deliberate to achieve heights in their activity by holding regular meetings. Moreover, the life standard of these women is improving rapidly now.
The Head of Aas Welfare Foundation Smt. Ghodke says that about 3 thousand 500 cloth bags manufactured by the group have been purchased by the Municipal Corporation. The businessmen and shopkeepers of the city are also being encouraged to purchase these bags.
