Farmer Ajit’s income doubles with horticulture and catch crops

Bhopal: Young farmer Ajit Kushwaha of Abdulpur village in Ashta block on the Bhopal-Indore road would sow soyabean and wheat on 2-hectare area in the traditional manner. This fetched him a yearly income of about Rs 72 thousand. To increase his income he contacted the Horticulture department officials who told him that the soil in his field was perfect for guava crop. 

Following the advice of the Horticulture department officials, Ajit grew guava on one hectare area which resulted in a bumper yield. His income rose to Rs 1.5 lakh per year. There are about 15 tonne guavas growing in his guava orchard.

Now Ajt has started growing catch crops like coriander, chilly, spinach and other vegetables and various spices which has helped him generate additional income. Ajit is happy after adopting horticulture.

Now he is preparing to grow more horticulture crops on the remaining one hectare land. For this he is in contact with the officials of horticulture department. Other farmers from nearby areas are following suit and are preparing to take catch crops.-Window To News
