Barren Land Becomes Fertile from Drip Irrigation

Bhopal: The 8 hectare uneven barren land of Shiv Singh Raghuvanshi of a small village Maghopur situated at a distance of 4 k.m. from Guna city was lying unutilized. It was very difficult to grow anything on this land. Shiv Singh, the B.Sc. graduate went to Dubai and Malaysia a little time ago and observed that the gardens irrigated by the drip irrigation system have become center of attraction for all. He realized, when flowers could flourish with drip irrigation in the desert of Dubai than it is not a big task to undertake farming on uneven land with this technique. This feeling turned Shiv Singh’s mind to undertake farming on the barren land.
Shiv Singh decided to transform the barren land into a fertile land. He held discussions with the officers of the Horticulture Department and made a plan to take horticulture crops on the land. In the year 2015, beside guidance from the horticulture department, he received drip irrigation system on subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Yojana, a small tractor under the state irrigation scheme, vegetable seeds under the vegetable area expansion scheme and Shankar chilies’ seeds under the spices area expansion scheme. There was already a tube well at his ancestral land.
The young farmer Shiv Singh started farming of tomatoes, chilies, garlic on the barren land. The uneven barren strips of the land became green, when he started irrigating the crop using drip irrigation system. In the first attempt itself, he sold tomatoes at Rs. 14 lakh besides chilies at Rs. 8 lakh 40 thousand and earned an income of Rs. 4 lakh 50 thousand from garlic. It was a handsome reward for him.
After this, Shiv Singh earned an income of Rs. 20 lakh from tomatoes, chilies, onion and cauliflower followed by income of Rs. 16 lakh 20 thousand from bitter gourd, tomatoes, pigeon peas (Tuar), maize and onion. His income is ever increasing now.
Shiv Singh has purchased rotavator, water pipes and also trolley from his income. He has also made road and pond constructed at his farm besides house and has installed one more tube well. Farming has become his passion and he has taken 100 bigha land on contract. Shiv Singh is providing work to about 15 labourers per day at his farm.-Window To News
