Prahlad receives best farmer award for organic farming

Bhopal: A medium category farmer from Sevaniya village of Ichawar development block in Sehore district, Prahlad Singh Verma had a 25 acre land where he used to pursue farming. He would get ordinary produce when he sowed pulses and food grain as main crops. Agriculture department chose Sevaniya village as a Jaivik gram.
Last year Prahlad came into contact with ATMA officials of Agriculture Development and took part in the activities of the scheme including Krishak Sangoshthi, Krishi Pradarshan, Kisan Khet Pathshala etc. and started work as per technical advice and guidance. In the first year, he sowed dhaincha crop as green fertiliser in two acres and later sowed chana which resulted in 10 quintal produce per acre. Earlier he would get hardly 5-6 quintal produce per acre.
Prahlad has got a 3 cubic metre bio gas plant installed in his field. This has helped supply of fuel easier for his family. There has been a change in his financial condition after setting up the plant. Earlier their women would have to arrange wood for fuel. Use of slurry from bio-gas in fields in the form of fertiliser for fruits and vegetables is very important.
Now Prahlad uses gou-mutra, neem ka kaadha, panchamrit, rotten buttermilk etc. for organic farming to check pesticides and other diseases. Training of organic farming will be given in Kharif and Rabi in the village in which village women will take part enthusiastically. Ever since the trained women use organic fertilisers and pesticides for their vegetable crops. With this they are getiing more profit for less cost.
Prahlad Singh Verma has been honoured with the Best Farmer Award in the agricultural field for the year 2010. Farmers here are now putting in every effort to bring the village to the category of state level Jaivik gram.-Window To News
