Jheel Mahotsav at tourist spot Gandhi Sagar from February 17 to 26

Bhopal: Jheel Mahotsav will be organised at Gandhi Sagar, tourist spot of Mandsaur district, from February 17 to 26. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism Surendra Patwa will formally inaugurate the Mahotsav at 12 noon on February 19. Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Tapan Bhoumik will preside over.
Adventure activities will be the main attraction of the Mahotsav. Aerial adventure activities will include hot air balloon, paramotors, paragliding, wall climbing, commando net and rope drill. The Mahotsav which has been organised by the Tourism Development Council Mandsaur includes several activities like kite festival carnival, craft bazaar, food bazaar, evening cruise, evening entertainment programmes like music band, folk music, band and poets meet etc.
Gandhi Sagar
Gandhi Sagar dam situated in Mandsaur district is constructed on Chambal river. Being located in the midst of dense jungle complete with endless natural beauty, this dam attracts tourists. The dam has 19 gates. When the gates are opened in the rainy season to drain out excess water , it becomes a captivating and spectacular experience. The dam was constructed about 6 decades back and was dedicated to the public in 1960. A park has been developed near the dam where a statue of Chambal Mata with water continuosly flowing out of the kalash in her hand has been established.
There is a sanctuary also in the Gandhi Sagar forest area. Here one can see wild animals including leopard, bear, fox, jackal, wolf, Chinkara, medaki, bluebull, wild boar, baboon, porcupine, rabbit, peacock besides rare endangered species of vultures.

Among sights that are a treat to the eye for tourists coming to the Jheel Mahotsav in Mandsaur district are Pashupatinath temple, Samrat Yashovardhan Museum, Natnagar Research Institute, Soundhni, Sevakunj, Laduna, Khejadia Bhope caves, Dudhakhedi, Dharmrajeshwar temple, Pola Dungar (Garoth) and Hinglajgarh ka kila.
