Education is basic key to fight Poverty:Governor Smt. Anandiben Patel

Bhopal: The Governor Smt. Anandiben Patel has said that education is the basic key to fight poverty. Educate daughters, as educated girls develop feeling towards health, culture and self dependence themselves. This was said by the Governor during the inauguration of Rahas Lokotsav at Gadakota tahsil headquarters of Sagar district on Thursday.

A state level convention of Ajivika women self-help groups was also organized on the occasion. An amount of Rs. 28 lakh to the Ajivika women self-help groups and sanitary napkins to about 50 thousand women, who were present in the convention were distributed.

Governor Smt. Patel mentioned that transformation in women’s life has come due to the livelihood mission. They are becoming self-dependent. Changes have also come in their perception. While advising the women, she said that education holds importance in life, education is a medium through which women can gain self-dependence easily and can get rid of poverty. She also urged all the women to educate their daughters. Smt. Patel further mentioned that educated daughters emancipates two families. Moreover, Smt. Patel also drew attention of the women on child marriages and its problems on the occasion.

The Governor Smt. Patel praised schemes of the government and said that women should come forward to derive benefit of various public welfare schemes. Mentioning about the Swachchta Abhiyan being conducted in the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she stated that a special focus has been laid on women’s education and health after he became the Prime Minister. The Union Government has also assured to provide health facility of Rs. 5 lakh to each family in the next budget.

Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development Gopal Bhargava said that Rahas Mela of Gadakota is 214 years old. In order to make the mela meaningful, besides showcasing art and culture of Bundelkhand, benefit of various public welfare schemes of the government will be provided to the villagers. He informed that several important decisions have been taken by the government, led by the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for women empowerment. As a result, panchayati raj institutions are represented by 54 percent women today. Women are serving on the post of President in 34 out of 51 Jila Panchayats of the state. Bhargava further stated that work to make women economically self-dependent is being carried out keenly through livelihood mission in the state. A financial assistance of about Rs. 2 thousand crore has been provided to one lakh 50 thousand women self-help groups. In this series, 21,000 families have been linked with the mission by forming 2 thousand groups of 214 villages of Rahli assembly constituency. An amount of Rs. 12 crore has been provided to these groups in 2 phases. Similarly, marriages of 17 thousand girls have been solemnized under the Mukhya Mantri Kanyadan Yojana in Rahli assembly constituency.

Moreover, Bhargava said that unavailability of hygienic items at the time of menstruation is a serious problem. To face this challenge, sanitary napkins prepared by the group of national livelihood mission will be provided to the women of rural areas at bare minimum cost. He said that free sanitary napkins are being distributed to 50 thousand women, who came in the convention to spread awareness among them.

Vice Chancellor of Sagar University R.K. Tiwari, Chairperson State Women Commission Smt. Lata Wankhede, Chairman Bundelkhand Development Authority Ramkrishna Kusmaria and MLA Smt. Parul Sahu were present in the programme.
