Rural women labourers setting up their own enterprises

Bhopal: Women in Madhya Pradesh are now engaging in business activities to strengthen their families financially. In this connection women in rural areas are coming forward in this direction. State Rural Livelihood Mission and Tejaswini Self-Help Group’s concept have gone a long way in providing support to these women. Women from poor and weaker sections have stopped working as labourers and are setting up their own enterprises with the help of these self-help groups and are becoming successful entrepreneurs.
Usha Sahu worked as a labourer along with her husband in adivasi dominated Nigoura village in Jaithari block of Anuppur district. When she joined the local Lakshmi self-help group, she became a part of the mid day meal programme run in the school. But this did not help in improving her financial condition as she expected, because she aimed at setting up her own enterprise.
When the work of empowerment of self-help groups formed earlier and formation of new self-help groups in Madhya Pradesh Deendayal Yojana under State Rural Livelihood Mission was started in the village, Usha also started taking part in the meetings of the self-help groups besides taking part in the vocational training of the mission. First and foremost, Usha took a loan of Rs 5 thousand from the group and strengthened her farming. After repaying the loan she took a loan of Rs 25,000 and repaid the moneylender. She was constantly moving ahead.
Seeing Usha’s determination and enthusiasm, the State Rural Livelihood Mission team advised her to start poultry business and offered her assistance also. She was provided a loan of Rs 2.50 lakh from the bank for poultry farming under Mukhya Mantri Swarozgar Yojana. Now she is running her poultry business efficiently with her husband’s help and is earning an income of Rs 12,000-Rs 15,000 per month.
Women become owners of brick kilns: Women who earlier worked as labourers
in brick kilns in Raiyasanta village of Panna district were made owners of these kilns with the help of Savitri bai Phule self-help yojana by the Antyavasayi Sahakari Samiti. Being members of the Saraswati Tejaswini self-help group of the village, these women received prompt financial assistance.
Members of the Saraswati Tejaswini self-help group under Savitri bai Self Help Yojana were given a loan of Rs 3 lakhs by the Hardua branch of Madhyanchal Gramin Bank. These women also received 50 percent that is Rs 1.50 lakh grant. Now these women are not labourers but owners at the brick kilns. They have equal share in the income from the kilns.-Window To News
